Batman, The Joker, Vagrant Story, The Pirates of Dark Water fandom asylums
And,
Please feel free to join
It is currently a WIP because I am still going through my 500+ hardcopy!issues collection. I do not download torrents/scans.
I'd like to point out that currently I have two polls up for debate, as can be seen here explaining two routes the asylum's project can take. IE: spoiler free reviews, spoilerific reviews, and whatnot. =) Otherwise, the FAQ and The Rules are already up. The tags/memory post is still a WIP.
I am also open to affiliating with other comic book and/or Batman related asylums, except for RPGs.

Maine fallout and thinking of the children
Yes, we do want children to learn about same-sex marriage in the contexts they learn about opposite-sex marriage. We want children to learn that in our society, your life and family are valued regardless of who you are and/or who you love. We want children to learn that queer people and our families are normal because we are. So what? Why should we try to pretend that we're okay with being invisible to "protect the children" from our existence? The children don't need to be protected in this way.
This ties in with something I, as a lifelong homeschooler, have always found confusing: people who want to keep the public schools from teaching about things their personal beliefs say are wrong. It's the job of the public schools, it seems to me, to provide education for everyone, i. e., for the public. Education means factual information and skills likely to be beneficial in later life, so that they can be productive members of society. Public education is supposed to benefit the public, in short, by giving its members the tools they need to do well in it. It's therefore best if it is inclusive, so as to decrease the hostilities between societal subgroups and the destructive behavior that arises from people feeling excluded or threatened by the Other. A society in which different groups coexist is a more functional one.
So what's a parent to do if the schools are teaching their kids things they don't approve of? Parent! Yes, folks, you can raise your own kids, you don't have to let the schools do it. You can emphasize that you believe the schoolteachers are teaching them wrong in x area, and explain why, or take your kids out of the school system altogether and guarantee that they learn what you personally believe. See, parenting is actually your job, not the government's (oh, yeah, that's who provides public education -- I've seen some people who seem to be unaware of that recently, so I thought I should mention.) Passing on your specific values is your job. (And your kids may end up believing things you don't, anyway, because they're individuals. Such is life.)
Arguing against inclusivity in the schools that serve GLBT children, and the children of LGBT parents, is stupid, and it's high time we said so. Which gets to the main point that keeps coming up, in all this: we keep losing because our opponents define the subjects, and we're the "second idiot" responding to their well-formulated attacks. It's high time we stopped letting them have control of the discourse.
Thank you.

The halls of Durmstrang are old and hallowed, filled with over 1,000 years of secrets, knowledge, and more than its fair share of death. But in all those years, it's been one thing, besides a pinnacle of education. It's always been impenetrable. No forces could enter the school without the very walls itself allowing them within. Until now. For the first time since its inception, the halls of Durmstrang are about to be breached, and even after the best education money can buy, no one's quite prepared for this. Secrets are being revealed, coming to light. There are skeletons in the closets - literally - and someone's hell-bent on revealing all. |

“ . . . All that was left in Pandora’s box was hope.” During the 21st century, a global pandemic swept over the world. They dubbed it the “Pandora virus,” or PV for short, because of its devastating nature. The virus tore through the world’s population. It killed almost one-third of humanity in its first month alone. Countries everywhere grew panicked, believing it to be a work of biological terrorism. Nation stood against nation, and a worldwide war began. Much of earth was laid to waste within just a handful of months by the combined effects of nuclear war and the Pandora virus. Survivors immune to the virus found the world uninhabitable, and many of them perished due to radiation poisoning or famine. |

A revolution has recently taken place within society’s attitude towards certain laws and civil rights. This transformation has left many traditionalists scared and fighting but most have been liberated due to the changes and are keen to allow them to continue. Mainly the rights for women and children have altered drastically. The change to female rights is almost immediately noticeable with the change of fashion.
Medical and scientific understanding has improved and the experimentation for artificial limb use and ‘upgrades’ to the physical being are becoming highly fashionable however extremely costly.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and everything's fine. Both Buffy and Angel have had their apocalypses; Sunnydale is a huge smoking crater, and Los Angeles is ticking on like nothing ever happened. Except something did. Somehow, Buffy and Angel are the new owners of the deserted Wolfram and Hart building, there's gold name-plates on the top floor condos for both teams, Buffy's and Angel's, and nobody quite knows what's going on with the Senior Partners or if they're even still in play. All they do know is, someone has been notifying all the brand-new Slayers and telling them to come out to Los Angeles and hop in the sandbox. On which side of the fence do you fall? |

A virus is sweeping its way through the corridors at Hogwarts. A virus that inhibits the use of even the most basic magic. The Ministry have declared a state of emergency and placed a magical quarantine around the school, trapping the disease, and everyone inside. But it's not just students confined to the Hogwarts grounds. One by one wizards find themselves losing their ability to perform even the simplest of spells. But even as they struggle to try and discover a cure, darker forces are beginning to close in on the school... With their worlds suddenly turned upside down, will the students be able to pull together once more, or will this be one hurdle too big for them to overcome?

It's 1977; school's out for Summer, but this Summer feels strange... dark, somehow. It won't be long before school will start again, and Owls from Hogwarts are winging their way across the country with the promise of another perfectly normal year at Hogwarts. Homework will be piled on, the threat of looming exams being beaten into ignorant minds, but for now, at least, it's Summer, yet... something doesn't feel right. It's so much darker this year than it was last year. The days seem to be shortening beyond comprehension. The fog is thick and cold and constant, not to mention the fact that everyone seems so glum. There are disappearances being noted in the newspaper, but everything seems vague, as though someone knows what is going on, but too afraid to voice it aloud. The adults seem a bit on edge, uncertain how to handle the evil that is lurking in the shadows. The students, for the most part, are completely unaware of what is going on, even those whose parents are deep in the throes of swearing their allegiance to one side or another. The students, it seems, live in a world of their own, one untouched by the misery and doom of the outside world. Still, there seems to be something very unpleasant lurking unsaid, something creeping and crawling into the very veins of those it infects. Though there are only whispers, and people are afraid to voice their fears out loud, there are some things that cannot be fought. After all, it's difficult to feel protected by magic when the other side can use it, too. Incanto is a straightforward Marauder Era game. No weird twists, no time travel, nothing out of the ordinary. If you just want a game that is canon, then this is for you. Our emphasis in this game is on character development rather than plot development - we will not puppeteer your characters and encourage you to generate your own plots. In short: we just want to play, and if you want to play, THEN PLAY WITH US.

In the 14th century, Dante Alighieri gave the world a glimpse into Hell. But, like medieval Florence and everything around it, Hell has changed, and unlike Earth not necessarily for the better. However even across the span of centuries some things remain steadfast – the despair is tantamount, the torture ironic, pity is scarce, reprieve impossible – Abandon all hope ye who enter here. This is a literature and live-action panfandom RPG that takes character torture to a whole new level.
